Lucy Brooks

My formal language training began at the age of eleven and continued through every stage of school and college.

Since graduating from college with a Diploma for Linguists in Commerce and Industry, I have used my language skills in many ways.

Starting as a bilingual secretary, I moved on to work in the tourist industry in Spain where I was responsible for dealing with clients from northern Europe.

For thirteen years I pursued a career in local government, while also offering IT and secretarial services in industrial PR.

I began my freelance translating career some 29 years ago, specialising in technical and business texts. I have seen the industry change and develop in many ways.

Proof-reading

Typos happen.  There was a case a while back where a brochure for a lens manufacturer had to be pulped because of a typo on the front cover: It said worlwide.  The translation supplier and the client each thought the other was proofing, so no-one did.
