Who I am

I am a professional translator, and I love the moment when a difficult German, French or Spanish text finally sounds as though it was written in English in the first place.

I have been a Chartered Linguist since 1991 and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Linguists since 2012. I studied languages in London, Lübeck and Paris, and I spent my early career in secretarial work, tourism and local government before moving into translation. That mix means I understand how businesses and public bodies actually work, not just how their words translate.

Over more than 30 years, I have specialised in business and technical texts: contracts and legal correspondence, tenders, product manuals, industrial and IT documentation, and marketing material. I translate into my native British English, which is the professional standard, and I always research the subject so that the terminology is right.

• I keep a translation memory of your terminology, so wording stays consistent across projects.

• I check every translation twice before it leaves me.

• I treat everything you send me as confidential.

Beyond the day job

I used to volunteer as a translator for Translators without Borders, helping humanitarian organisations reach the people who need them. I have lived in High Salvington for many decades, and I am co-chair of the High Salvington Windmill Trust, safeguarding our Grade II* listed windmill. I am also a long-standing member of Toastmasters, and recently became a "distinguished Toastmaster", the highest grade of Toastmaster. All this keeps my communication skills sharp.
